An Eye for Fashion: Refinery29 Comes to Flipboard
One of America’s most successful and popular women’s style blogs was actually created by two men who met at a boarding school in Massachusetts.
Philippe von Borries and Justin Stefano remained close friends after their time at Concord Academy, even after parting ways for Columbia University and New York University, respectively. Following graduation and two years in the workforce, they reconnected in 2005 with the idea to start a blog, Refinery29, that reported on New York City’s style scene. Despite the fact that the first-time entrepreneurs were foreign to the world of fashion, the site went from fashion anonymity to authority.
The blog’s success can be partly attributed to its practicality: it serves as a guide to fashion-forward brands, emerging boutiques, innovative designers, and trends in places like New York, London, Los Angeles and Chicago. It also covers topics like nightlife, shopping and beauty, with stories on the best summer events in NYC, the summer’s chicest bohemian prints, and the best kept secret to a healthy flush.
Starting today, you can get cutting-edge styles and tips from Refinery29, now paginated for your Flipboard.
